Chuck Schumer Tells Trump Who SCOTUS Nominee Should Be. It’s Hilarious.

In a stunning display of generosity, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer reportedly offered his sage advice to President Trump as to whom his nominee should be for the Supreme Court seat soon to be vacated by retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy.

Schumer reportedly suggested the same judge whose nomination by former president Barack Obama was stopped by the GOP Senate so that Obama could not solidify the Court as a bastion of leftism: Merrick Garland.

Scoop — Schumer urges Trump in private call to nominate MERRICK GARLAND for SCOTUS, while shortlist is winnowed down to three. w/ @costareports

Schumer has been bloviating about what Trump should do since the very moment Kennedy announced his imminent retirement; only last week he whined about the timing of the nomination:

If GOP were consistent, they would wait to consider Justice Kennedy’s successor until after the midterm elections. Time & again Ldr McConnell claimed the American ppl should have a voice in deciding the next SCOTUS Justice. That was in Feb of an election year. It’s almost July.

If the Senate’s constitutional duty to advise and consent is just as important as the President’s right to nominate, as Leader McConnell also reminded us, why should a midterm election be any less important than a presidential election?

Of course, Elena Kagan was nominated by former president Barack Obama in May 10, 2010, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on August 5, 2010, which was a midterm election year, so there’s that . . .

CNBC reported that when Schumer called Trump, he warned that picking a justice hostile to Roe v. Wade or Obamacare would be "cataclysmic.”

See? Upchuck is genuinely worried about how things will work out for his opposition if they do something he doesn't like!

But it's funny. I don't recall them ever worried about what Republicans might think about what they did to stack the deck when they were in charge.

Another angle for them was suggested for stacking the courts. They might not be able to prevent things not going their way now (stall? maybe). But one day Americans might be stupid enough again to put one of them in the White House. So the idea is at that time they can expand the court to 11. The Constitution doesn't prescribe how many. (In fact, the Constitution only mentions SCOTUS in broad terms and none of the rest of the court system, so the rest of all of the courts could be shut down any time they want to.) Therefore the left could expand it to 11.

But then they'd lose the office. And a Republican with a spine might win. Then (s)he expands it to 15.

And in another century, America has amnesia again and puts a communist in charge once more. And (s)he expands it to 20.

Then another sanity check and a Republican makes it 50.

On and on and on it goes. Until one day they meet once a year to hear one case and it never gets a ruling because there are too many questions, court has to be closed too often because of Muslim holidays, Buddhist holidays, Pagan holidays, Atheist holidays, Taoist holidays, Hindu holidays - but no Christian holidays because those violate church and state provisions - as well as pregnancies, ill health of about 30-800 of the justices and hundreds of other reasons.

You can't blame the left for not thinking these things through. Like they did with the filibuster and judicial nominees. The main requirement to think things through is the capacity to think.

The American Dream is to be Donald Trump.
