    Armadillos

Post  Ladyelaine on Sun Mar 11, 2018 1:03 pm

Darned things dug up my plant bulbs that had sprouted, some with foliage 3 or 4 inches tall and some over a foot tall. Has anyone successfully used a castor oil mixture ( 2parts oil to 1 part Dawn) to repel the critters without damaging the plants? I have a huge herd of these coming into my yard during the night time darkness. Trying to trap them doesn't work.

I've never had a problem with those creatures. But I sprayed tomato plants with dish detergent, water and red pepper. They left them alone after that.

If you use something like that to keep animals away, it's actually better to sprinkle it. Almost anything you use to spray red pepper with will get clogged. Some things are impossible to unclog (ask me how I know).

Thank you. I'll buy some red pepper and try sprinkling around the flower bulb bed and then dampen it with dish detergent/water spray. I have chili powder but that might not be hot enough to work as well.

I'd mix the pepper, dish detergent and some water, then sprinkle it on stuff. Otherwise the pepper might fall off onto the ground and let them get around it. If you get some in the bed and on the plants it's better for keeping them away.
