    How the mighty have fallen

U.S. News Crowns California Worst State for ‘Quality of Life’

The U.S. News & World Report has named California the worst state for “quality of life,” largely due to the high cost of living.

U.S. News ranks the 50 U.S. states each year on eight major social and economic categories to determine an overall competitive ranking. California received an overall score of 32 in 2018, based on sub-category rankings for a Health Care (11); Education (26); Economy (4); Opportunity (46); Infrastructure (38); Crime and Corrections (28); Fiscal Stability (43); and Quality of Life (50).

U.S. News found California’s high cost of living to be its biggest detriment, despite its having the largest economy in the nation. San Jose and San Francisco both ranked in the 20 top places to live in U.S., but two communities were also in the most expensive for housing.

California’s 2016 median household income of $67,739 was ranked ninth nationally. The 18 percent higher income average compared to the national average of $57,617 might seem attractive, but California also had four of North America’s top 10 high cost of living cities..

California’s income reporting is being pushed up by the state’s large concentrations of Hollywood media celebrities, Silicon Valley technologists, and Orange County real estate developers, who consistently make huge amounts of money.

Hollyweird is starting to crumble. The money they've made isn't going anywhere. The celebrities are still making it. But it's starting to fall off. Mostly because everything they crank out now has a political message (like the losing NFL is doing). People want to escape, be entertained, not be indoctrinated.

Silicon Valley, too, isn't on the verge of bankruptcy. But cracks are starting to form. Peter Thiel (brings a lot of money to the valley, especially for small companies and startups) has said he's moving to LA to get away from all of the leftism (not exact wording, but definitely what he was saying - he's nowhere near a leftist by Cali standards). That brought news that others were moving or looking to move out of the area. Some of those out of the state. Most said it's for similar reasons as Theil's. Others stated it's because the left (paraphrasing, they didn't say "left") has allowed San Fransicko and other parts of the area to decline to third world levels. Almost all mentioned the high costs of doing business (not high cost of living) caused by insane regulation and compliance measures they have to follow.

California is in the early stages of Detroit-rot. That disease occurs and spreads after several decades of non-stop liberalism creating a Utopia that collapses and turns to ruin. Like happened in Venezuela. It followed the same route at an accelerated pace and eventually came down with Detroit-rot. Or Haiti. Or Puerto Rico, which has never not had Democrats running it since the US took possession.

I saw a picture earlier purporting to show humans in Venezuela competing with dogs trying to eat from trash strewn around the street. Don't know that it was real, but strongly suspect it was. Such is California's eventual future. San Fransicko is already pretty close even though there's still a lot of money there. Like all of the oil Venezuela still has.
