Twitter shuts down user's account over mosquito death threat

Japanese Twitter user has had his account flagged and frozen after he contravened the service's rules by making a death threat - against a mosquito.

The Twitter user, who goes by the name DaydreamMatcha, only signed up to the service earlier this month but soon ran into trouble after an angry anti-mosquito outburst while watching television, according to the Sora News 24 website.

"Bastard! Do you enjoy biting me all over while I'm trying to relax and watch TV? Die? (Actually, you're already dead)", the tweet declared. The message was accompanied by a picture of the offending insect, dead on the floor.

A short time after his post, DaydreamMatcha received a message from Twitter thanking him for using the service, but informing him that his account "has been frozen because it was used to send messages containing threats.

"Tweets containing threats are not allowed under our terms of service. This account cannot be reactivated", it added. "Thank you for your understanding".

Social media has been quick to mock the decision to ban DaydreamMatcha, which was almost certainly taken by an automated programme that is designed to search posts for key words and phrases.

@twitter closed the account of a guy in Japan who had
been bitten several times by a mosquito and wanted it to die.
    SMH no common sense.

"When the robots [rise up] they will take the mosquito's side", said one poster on the Sora News site.

Another added, "Wow, pacifism has gone so far as to not even let you dislike bugs that steal your blood and may give you diseases".

Like immigrants do? You can't say bad things about them on TwitterFacebookYoutube either. Especially if it's true.
